February 9th-11th.
Butoh dance is an enigma, a mystery, changes frequently
Wild or peaceful, slow or erratic
Painfully personal, or grandiose in scope
Improvised, or rich in staged and precise gestures.
He seemed to be existing by itself, without definition or explanation
Butoh is not Dance, nor is it Theater
But a movement that draws inspiration from the human nature and the imagination.
Butoh is violent and sensual, unreasonable and scary
And it profoundly changes those who experience it.
Taketeru Kudo is one of the leading butoh artists of the generation. His creation explores the sphere between the folkloric blood and the wilderness of modernity. The achievement of his works has been aimed at building up total theater even if it is performed by solos. He successively put the thesis to the butoh society where every value is most disordered decades after its foundation in 1960’s.
His artistic concerns go beyond the border of the genres. He keeps working with artists of various genres even though it is classic or modern. All of his activities have covered across 32 countries of the world.
The workshops are open to both professionals and students from various artistic fields, with previous experience in movement.
