THE ART OF FOOTBALL

Jo Stromgren Company (Norway)

Clipa Theater thanks the Norwegian Embassy in Israel for supporting Clipa Aduma Festival

Norway's superstar dance-thaeter group arrives with it's celebrated performance "Art of Football", which delves deep into the physical routine of the greatest game on earth and elevates the aesthetic aspects of its insanity. It comments the artificial conflict between the "common sports" and the "eloquent arts" as well as the pride and prejudice surrounding the concept of working-class football and upper-class ballet.

Jo Strømgren began his career as a football player, and eventually transfered to the world of stage arts, where he has grown to become one of the most esteemed dance-theater directors in Europe. He creates combining dance, theater and advances visual techniques.

"Art of Football" was first premiered in 1997, and became immesdiately a one of a kind intertnational hit, touring extensively. One of its versions was showcased in the last World Cup in Germany.

Praise for "Art of Football":

"The gags are numerous and irresistible, but the choreographer also masters the art of creating inventive movements and beautiful images"
Le Figaro, France
"It's a cheeky, rumbustious celebration of the physical exuberance of football and dance"
The Times, UK
"Behind the slow-motion replays, crotch-scratching rituals and satirical player stereotypes lurks a sophisticated take on a global obsession that says much about the human condition"
The Guardian, UK
"A marvel of mood and observation"
